Sadi Loo shared her “calm sweetness” with every patient or resident during visits. A patient attacked by 2 large dogs wanted to sit in the floor and visit the therapy dogs. Sadi began getting in her lap (approved). Then there it was “calm sweetness” on the patient’s bandaged face.

Abby survived cancer twice and now has Cushing's. She's not in pain, but is very lethargic and will enjoy her last years relaxing in the sun. Thank you for allowing her to visit children as a reader dog, doing presentations, and visiting seniors at the assisted living facility.

Mojo was my 7th therapy dog in 46 years of volunteering with Norwegian Elkhounds. He was a big boy, but super sweet and gentle. He retired at 12½ and is missed by the prison inmates and the children at schools and library, and my friend at assisted living.

Chilly was a natural and just retired. She suffered hearing loss last year after a loud alarm went off while visiting. She was so loved and now missed by the school children, patients and inmates at a local prison. She always brought a bright spot to all who knew her.

Peace is a 6-year-old Sheltie who started with Kindly Canines of PA in July 2023. Her visits were concentrated on spreading love to hospice patients in their homes as well as in Mercy House of Chambersburg. More recently, she began volunteering at Victory House for homeless vets.

Gracie started her journey at an elementary school where kids read aloud to her. She comforted people at our local Justice Center, posing for selfies with Sheriff deputies. She developed cancer in February, so she is enjoying her retirement digging holes and resting in the sun.

Burberry was found on the side of the road. Since then, he has become a therapy dog and an agility dog. He loves people and brought many smiles. At 16 years old, he is going to enjoy his retirement with lots of sun baths.

Upon entering a facility, Dash barked once to let everyone know he was there. He charmed folks in the hospital, at the university, juvenile residential centers, and nursing homes. His favorite people are teenage boys. Strong-willed and stubborn at home, but went into work mode when his vest went on.

Memorial Submissions

It’s never easy to close the “therapy dog” chapter in your dog’s life. The memorable connections and smiles created by your loving pet’s visits can stir many emotions as you decide to retire your loved one from Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD). ATD wants to highlight these dedicated pets. We will publish profiles recognizing their service to ATD on our website. Submit to the ATD Office via the “Contact Us” form on the ATD website found here, Contact Us – Alliance of Therapy Dogs and select “Retiree Submission.” In addition to a photo of your dog, you will include the dog’s name, owner’s name, city and state, years of service and a brief summary (less than 50 words) about the pet’s special qualities. “Retired” submissions will be updated quarterly.
